Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are standing by Ed Sheeran in a lawsuit

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are standing by Ed Sheeran in a lawsuit that's been filed over their current single, "The Rest of Our Life," which he co-wrote.

According to TMZ, the superstar country couple have filed a legal response to a lawsuit that claims they stole the song, which is the title song and second single from the couple's first-ever duets album. McGraw and Hill claim they lawfully licensed the song, meaning there would be no conflict with them performing it.

They back Sheeran's claim that he did not create a "note for note" copy of a song titled "When I Found You,' which was previously a hit for Jasmine Rae in Australia. The couple also claim that even if Sheeran and his co-writers had lifted the song, that would have nothing to do with them, since they merely recorded a song that was pitched to them and were not involved in its creation.

Songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden filed a lawsuit in New York federal court on Jan. 10, claiming "The Rest of Our Life" was obviously stolen from their prior work.

Sheeran fired back in court on April 2, claiming "The Rest of Our Life" is an "originally and independently created musical composition" that has no relationship to their song.
